Conflict Minerals
Overview
- "Conflict minerals" refer to tin, tungsten, tantalum and gold (3TG), which are mined in conflict zones in Africa (10 countries including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Zambia, Uganda etc). As armed groups are taking a control over mining and distribution of minerals using them as a mean of funding and cause human rights violations in these regions, the international community, including the United States and the EU, regulates the distribution of conflict minerals.
